Let’s Get Back To Work Mr. Ford!
If Ontario is open for business, why is the legislature still closed?

For Immediate Release

Toronto, ON (September 10th, 2019) – Liberal leadership candidate Mitzie Hunter is calling on the Ford government to recall the legislature immediately so that MPP’s can get back to working for Ontario. They need to be focusing on issues like the Ford government’s cuts to education, healthcare and municipalities, and addressing the threat of climate change

“There is no reason not to resume the legislature before the federal election,” said Hunter. “It’s not in the best interest of Ontario. There’s work to be done.”

    • Teachers and education workers have been without a contract since August 31st causing uncertainty for students, parents and teachers.
    • The Ford government promised to end ‘hallway medicine’ and hospital overcrowding but then set hospital funding at less than the rate of inflation putting more pressure on an already stressed healthcare system.
    • A recent media report revealed that for nearly a year, the Ford government was exploring lifting the protected status of 60 hectares of property in the Greenbelt for residential development despite the Premier’s promise in 2018 ‘not to touch it.’“The Ford government is incapable of being transparent with Ontarians,” said Hunter. “The Greenbelt issue is just another example of the government looking out for their rich donors and friends. We can’t trust this government to do what’s best for Ontario. This is not a government for education, healthcare or the environment. Ontario deserves a government that works for all the people. There are real issues which need to be addressed and its time that we return to the legislature to hold this government accountable.”
